Monty's '72 CuNiFe Wide Range Set
We are pleased to announce the new Monty’s ‘72 Cunife Wide Range Pickups.
They are a perfect, vintage correct recreation of the classic Fender humbuckers of the early seventies. We have been making these for years with non vintage magnets and while they sounded good we had to vary the recipe to get the tone right. We have now got a steady supply of Cunife and can recreate these sort after pickups perfectly.
Most Wide Ranges that are available are not vintage correct; they are wound using smaller bobbins that are closer to standard humbuckers than the larger almost tele bridge size ones in the originals. This makes a massive difference even when a pickup is using cunife. They are wound with ...

Monty's OverSpun '69 Stratocaster Set

The Monty's OverSpun '69 Stratocaster set is our take on the classic fat late sixties Fillmore East Strat tone. Fatter and punchier than our regular '69 Strat set but still with all the clarity you want from a late sixties Fender.
Monty's OverSpun PAF Set
Просмотров 3,2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
While our Original PAF pickups set the bar for pure vintage humbucker tone and our UnderSpun PAFs upped the clarity factor while dropping the winds, our OverSpun PAF set takes pure PAF tone to the next level. As you would expect they are sonically thicker, fatter, and able to drive the front end of your amp or pedal harder, but all the while retaining all the unpotted 3D sparkle of a great 1950...

What a bad idea! More than 90% will be sold and you just messed us the original finish permanently. Just apply Carnuba wax once in a while and it’s just as smooth.
I tried that but found it's not that useful in practice.
Hi bro. I just purchased the 5 way tele loom. My Bridge pickup is a stacked hum-bucker and has a red, green, black, white, and silver wire. How do I need to wire that up? Thank you I’m super excited to get this build going.
Hey Bryan, Thanks so much for ordering a 5 way. Drop an email to mail@montysguitars.com with the make and model of the pickups you have and we can get you up and rocking. Cheers M
They sound wonderful
There is still no substitute for a dedicated camera operator with a pro non auto focus lens on his camera.... thought I'd had 4 double brandys, good video when in focus....
What color is a burstbucker 3 inside? Are they always tan and black zebra color? or are some fully black?
You never really know tbh they vary
Watching this in 2024: Wow that is so cheap for a 63 strat
True. I also got the cost wrong it was more in the £30000 region.....
@@Montysguitarsandpickups that’s more like it lol
Sweeeeeet!
Beautiful
What a tease that was, sounding good. Matt are you a radiohead fan by any chance. The Honda sign is very Jonny Greenwood.
Thanks man. Yep I am a Radiohead fan, they are ruddy marvelouse. George got me the sticker as a present
@@Montysguitarsandpickups awesome man. Me too, hope you are enjoying The Smile. Seen them 4 times already
Why did you not use paint remover?
They sound wonderful. I’ll need a Tele Deluxe for them to go into.
So glad these are finally coming out! :-) Epic pickups!!
Great video, cheers. Can I use this technique on the fret board side of a maple neck where a lot if the original lacquer has worn away?
Thank you, glad you liked it. Yes you can do exactly that. Cheers M
dumb question, if I take off the neck, will I have to adjust the trust rod after?
No such thing as a dumb question dear chap. No your truss rod will stay where it was before you removed the neck. Cheers M
i dont understand why they lacquer it, do they not know how sticky it starts to feel?
Nice explanation but I can’t see a damn thing!
i can't wait to get mine! I've got a Murphy Lab Dirty Lemon burst 59 waiting for them.
Very nice!.. It'll be a great combination
Around 10 mins in, 🤨😣😆😄 I was waiting on Barry White tune to start playing in the background. lol Good info, none the less. Thanks Subscribed
Thanks dear chap
I've used it on a couple of my guitars, and it really does help.
Glad it's rocking for you. Cheers M
There's a slight difference in tone I hear, but there also seems a jump in volume. Is that correct?
There is a volume lift. The plate increases the magnetic field which boosts the pickups output. Cheers M
I put an OverSpun 69 in the bridge of my '74 Strat. It is a masterpiece. It gives me (a lot) more output on the bridge pickup, just enough extra meat in the mids but still has the bite. Tonally, it matches the original Fender staggered pole pickups that it is based on. Just beware that Monty's wind their pickups the other way to vintage and modern Fenders so you need to swap the wires. Wish I'd know that before I had cut them!
Matt…I use my guitars as guinea pigs cuz I’m an idiot…I used a product one time and it was horrible…made the fingerboard tacky and slow (the opposite of what I wanted)…took about 3 months to wipe/wear off…so I’m apprehensive about fingerboard products…I just want something to make the board smooth and fast feeling…will this instrument food do the trick??
Hey mate, Yes I.F. will do that for you. If the board is rough or bumpy, you can apply it on some very fine wet and dry sandpaper for an extra glassy feel. Cheers M
Why is it necessary to earth the base plate.
Hi Matt, I have the DP’s now about a year. After changing the wiring to cloth wiring, vintage pots and a paper in oil caps they sound magical!! I have CS fat 50’s in my Strat. There is no comparison. The Strat sound so much better. I have one question. Do you advice a treble bleed?
????? naaa. Its all in your head,You might barely see it on a graph,But is it worth the time and money to gunk up your pickup? Buy a simple and useful E Q to put on your board ,It will even reshape your pickup sound if you want.
I’m trying to decide on this with a broadcaster bridge or a full set of either.
A broadcaster bridge with a 53 neck is a great combo. You get the chime like neck tones with the mid growl of the BC bridge pushing your amp a little harder. Cheers M
@@Montysguitarsandpickups I have a Les Paul and Tele and a 5e3. I ordered early this morning a retro Tele set but might ask to change it to what you said! I do t know, stoked on your look and pickups regardless. Thank you!
So... I bought Two. A single thickness and a double. The double went on my 92' left handed Johnson Strat. Ive previously upgraded it with vintage 60's pickups, locking tuners and a wiring harness, with the correct left handed pots and a treble bleed/bridge tone mod. The baseplate is just another fun, inexpensive upgrade.... and yes I( and my guitar tech) do hear a difference. He ended up installing the other plate in his own Strat.
Nice one!
Won’t the heat demagnetize the poles
No you'll be fine dear chap. It needs way more heat to do that. Cheers M
Nice guitar and great playing. What is the guitar? 🤘
Your 62 strat set sounds bad ass
Just picked up your wax/food set, can’t wait to start on my guitars.
Very close!
Great sound
Amazing! Although please please how do you remove the lacquer from the fretboard?
For the best results I would take the frets out and and scrape/sand the board down. You can do this with the frets in it just takes a lot longer and can leave some finish by the edges of the frets. Cheers M
@@Montysguitarsandpickups thank you so much! I want to get it refretted anyway. So to save costs, I will remove the frets and lacquer myself. Should make the refret job cheaper hopefully 😂 It has nickel frets which I hate because they wear to easily and don’t keep as smooth as SS. Can’t wait for the upgrade!
@@Hello_there_obi SOunds like a great plan dear chap! Good luck. Cheers M
I used mine yesterday. I’m very impressed with it. It has darkened it as expected but it’s also much more vibrant looking and far less dry. It looks amazing. How long will this last for? Do I need to reapply it once a year or something?
So glad it's rocking for you. It may lighten a little bit naturally but will stay darker than it was originally until you clean the board with lighter fluid. I redo my own guitars when I service them (which is roughly once every 6 months)
@@Montysguitarsandpickups thanks! Ps the instrument food is also excellent. I’ve recommended both products to the rest of the band 👍
Unless it's a custom build or vintage, it's probably polyurethane you're scraping off, not (nitrocellulose) "lacquer".
😮
Why do you need to use the blade? Why not just use sand paper from the beginning?

I have your mini humbuckers in my Rivolta Mondata II and they have an awesome tone!
Wow, that sounds fantastic
Hi, is it possible to use this as a finish for a raw wood guitar body?
Yes it works great for doing exactly that. I have a swamp ash Tele that is finished with Instrument Food, it looks killer. Cheers M
Can I add them to my pickups?? I have staggered pickups (like a silver sky se) and the magnet poles are not flat against the bottom base, is that possible??? Sorry for the bad English :(
No need to appologies dear chap. The baseplates do fit the Silver Sky SE pickups as the magnets don't stick out to far, just don't overtighten the screws when attaching the baseplate. If you get stuck just drop me an email and we can sort a zoom or something to get you up and rocking. Cheers M
Thank you!!
Sublime tone.
excelente video.Muchas Gracias!!!
Extra wiring options... does that mean there are two coils, one RWRP and one standard? Above/below, inner/outer... darn I want to buy a set just to see how it's done.
It's a goodn' you should give it a go dear chap
@@Montysguitarsandpickups Good god old man, have you seen the exchange rate on these Australian paesos they pay us? Instead, how about I send you a system to help you setup those ramped stratocaster string heights you love so much. I'm sure you'll read the email long before you read this reply. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish!
Just ordered a set of 53s, should be in new Zealand this week, cant wait to put them in my tele..thank you
How long does the smell of the instrument food last? I love seeing the results but the smell is a bit off putting for me.
Once you've buffed it off and cleaned the guitar down you should be smell free. Cheers M
